NCC completed Focal Project II for the Automotive Composites Consortium (ACC) - a division of the United States Consortium for Automotive Research – (USCAR) in August 2000 with successful results. NCC’s broad range of preform molding expertise allowed it to effectively complete its work on both the P4 and SRIM systems – producing and delivering pick-up boxes in unit quantities of hundreds to ACC.
The pickup boxes were then put on test tracks by the Big Three. While some of the pickup boxes are still being tested – the results of the development program caught the attention of General Motors’ Chevrolet Truck Division, which installed a preform and molding cell at its tier one supplier Meridien, based in Huntington, Indiana. The composite boxes are being marketed in the Chevrolet Dealer literature under the trademarked name ProTec.
